Today we are thrilled to announce that David Crane, CEO of NRG Energy, has joined The B Team. He will work, alongside our 19 other global leaders, to redefine the role of business in the world to make it a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit.

Over the last 12 years, David Crane has led the largest independent electricity producer in the United States. And has distinguished himself for his forward-looking vision on the potential of distributed and renewable energy and the need to increase investments in clean power and technologies.

Crane will work with a number of other B Team Leaders on The B Team’s ‘Net-Zero by 2050‘ initiative. In 2015, this initiative focused on the need for clear and ambitious long-term emissions targets for both government and businesses, and has called for a target of net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. Reaching net-zero emissions entails aggressively reducing one’s own footprint, investing and scaling solutions that help others reduce theirs, and balancing the remaining emissions with negative emissions technologies.

I’m proud to be part of a group of visionary business leaders aligned in their understanding that it will take all of us, working together, across all sectors of our society to achieve ‘Net Zero by 2050’ and catalyse new and better ways of doing business to positively impact our planet,” said David. “As corporate leaders, we have not only a responsibility in driving the change, but also the ability to do so while creating economic gain for our stakeholders, improvements in the environment and new opportunities for others. The innovation economy around energy and clean power has opened the doors to ground-breaking solutions that were considered impractical only a few years ago. I am looking forward to working with The B Team to energize a low carbon future where everyone can thrive.
