To include people and
planet in business’
In the last century companies have increasingly focused on the single objective of profit maximization, driving short-term financial gains at a long-term cost to people and the planet.
Business has not accounted for the true cost of its activity and subsequent negative impacts on society and the environment. The bottom lines reported to investors, therefore, do not reflect the true “health” and status of the business.
We can accelerate a move away from single minded financial 'short-termism' toward a focus on the long term, and will aim to expand corporate accountability beyond financial gains to include negative and positive contributions to the economy, environment and society.
To catalyse incentives that
benefit people and
planet alongside profit
Current global regulatory frameworks do not support the transition of markets and business models towards the future bottom line.
There are too few positive incentives and too many perverse incentives, and there is a need to identify the biggest opportunities, and build pathways to enable solutions.
We are working with partners to develop new corporate and employee incentive structures and to identify and map both positive and harmful subsidies, helping to shift market and business behavior toward incentives that maximize social, environmental and economic benefit.
To ignite a movement of leaders
committed equally to people,
planet and profit
As the current mindset of only competing and consuming solely for financial gains is unsustainable, business leaders need to work together to build new foundations.
Based on the need to redefine what it means to be a good leader in business we aim to accelerate a new kind of inclusive leadership underpinned by a moral compass of being Fair, Honest, Positive and Creative. This is founded on cooperation and will be aimed at generating long term value for society, the economy and the environment.
Working with others, we will highlight and celebrate those who are showing us the way and nurturing a new generation of business leadership.
To ensure capital
flows to support people
As capital currently flows disproportionately to companies that focus solely on profit, it’s time to support businesses that deliver social and environmental benefit and convince investors that such companies are not only possible, but also profitable.
Innovative and new forms of business are incorporating people, planet and profit at their core, yet we can do much more to support and help them achieve scale and maximum impact.
Together we can nurture an ecosystem that allows Plan B companies to thrive, direct capital flows and investment towards companies that promote people, planet and profit, and ensure that entrepreneurs are supported in creating Plan B businesses.
