I write to share news of a personal decision Halla Tómasdóttir has made, which impacts the day-to-day leadership and operations of The B Team.

After much reflection and consultation with her family, friends and other trusted advisors, Halla has announced her candidacy for President of Iceland.

It’s been an honor and a joy for me to support Halla’s stewardship of The B Team for nearly six years, hand in hand with our inspiring leaders, staff and partners. As she steps aside to focus her time and energy on the campaign trail, I am excited and humbled to accept appointment as the Chief Change Catalyst and interim CEO of The B Team.

2024 is a year like no other, with nearly half of the world’s population heading to the polls. This election year comes at a time when democracy is in decline globally and more than 50 countries are experiencing “severe” declines in freedom. These concerns are even more alarming in the context of rising global challenges, which demand courageous leadership and deeper collaboration within and among nations.

For 10 years, The B Team has championed the cause of courageous leadership, advocating for a world in which we prioritize people and principles. The leaders support and challenge each other to be the best versions of themselves, asking a simple question: How will we choose to lead?

The truth is the fabric of our society is being tested by global crises unprecedented in our lifetimes. In the face of these challenges, I am energized to steward this courageous collective that is brimming with hope, resilience and a deep-rooted sense of togetherness. It’s not the moments on stage or behind a podium that differentiate a B Team leader, but the brave actions they take every day, behind the scenes, to support and uplift each other, their employees and their values. They catch each other when they stumble and, in my view, are lighthouses of bravery in a sea of conformity.

I want to thank all of you, The B Team’s broader community of mission-aligned leaders and advocates, for your continued support of our work — and for your tireless efforts to make your organization, your community and our world a better place. Together, let’s recommit to building a future that our children and future generations deserve.

I can assure you that our incredible team, guided by our chair Jesper Brodin and vice-chair Ester Baiget, will continue to advance The B Team’s mission with the same passion and dedication you have come to know. We remain as committed as ever to being radically collaborative, inclusive and transparent in everything we do. Our B Team leaders believe that now, more than ever, is the time to be ten times bolder. It’s an honor to support them and deliver on our mission with persistence, humility and humanity.
