In this critical decade of climate action, 2021 is proving to be a pivotal year for bold leadership in addressing our interlinked crises of nature, climate, public health and economic inequality. The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) in October and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November provide ample opportunity to showcase humanity's indefatigable resolve in solving these crises. Between now and then, however, critical building blocks must be put in place to ensure a positive outcome at both COP events.
A global coalition of business organizations including The B Team, Business for Nature and WBCSD are uniting to amplify calls for the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution giving universal recognition to the Human Right to a Healthy and Sustainable Environment in September. The business case is clear: recognizing this right will contribute to protecting our natural capital and creating the conditions through which our planet—and business—can sustainably thrive.
Momentum is growing behind "The Time Is Now" global campaign, to recognize the universal right to a healthy and sustainable environment, particularly among a core group of countries that includes Costa Rica, Maldives, Morocco, Slovenia and Switzerland. The goal of universal recognition is within reach, and business leaders can help drive this home.
The B Team invites individual businesses to join this important effort here.
