The B Team appoints Ester Baiget, President & CEO of Novozymes, as its next vice-chair

September 18, 2023, New York: Today, The B Team announced the appointment of Ester Baiget, president and CEO of global biotech company Novozymes and a member of The B Team, as its new vice-chair.

The B Team is a collective of global business and civil society leaders catalyzing better business practices for the wellbeing of people and the planet. The announcement coincides with the kickoff of Climate Week NYC and the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

Sharan Burrow, outgoing vice-chair and former general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, welcomed Baiget’s appointment: “Ester’s ability to both convene and disrupt — as well as her background in science — make her the ideal leader to advance The B Team’s holistic agenda and advocacy efforts.”

At the helm of Novozymes since 2020, Baiget is the first woman to hold the CEO position in the company’s history. Previously, she enjoyed a successful, quarter-century run at Dow Chemical Company, ascending from an engineer to business president of Dow’s Industrial Solutions unit.

Reflecting upon her new appointment, she said, “It is an honor to be appointed vice-chair of The B Team. The B Team lifts a tremendous task in mobilizing companies, governments and organizations and advocating for the cross-sector collaboration we need to ensure the health of our planet and its people. I look forward to working even closer with The B Team on this journey. The challenges are great, but the solutions are within our reach."

"Ester's transformational leadership is key to driving the speed and scale of change required," said B Team CEO Halla Tómasdóttir. "She leads with courage. We're delighted Ester is stepping into this leadership role with The B Team."
