A New Bar for Responsible Tax: The B Team Responsible Tax Principles

We need to build a new business consensus around responsible tax practice, and communicate that clearly and proactively. We want to lead from the front and encourage others to join us—that’s what these Principles are all about.”

Bob Collymore (1958-2019), Former CEO of Safaricom and B Team Leader

The B Team, together with a group of leading companies and through engagement with civil society organisations, institutional investors and international institutions have developed A New Bar For Responsible Tax.

Endorsed by a founding group of companies including Allianz, BHP, A.P. Moller - Maersk, Natura Cosméticos, Repsol, Safaricom, Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Unilever and Vodafone Group Plc. these Principles are intended to drive best practice.

The Principles offer a framework that details what good tax practice should look like and sets a new benchmark for businesses to work towards practicing. They cover key areas such as tax management strategy, interactions with authorities, and reporting. These Principles are a starting point, and leadership is needed. In putting forward The B Team Responsible Tax Principles, we urge more business leaders to step up and join us.

To find out how you can take action, endorse the Principles and discuss the opportunity to share lessons, experiences and challenges with their peers and through multi-sector dialogue, contact Ewan Livingston, Cause Strategist, Governance, at el@bteam.org.
